“I sell dreams, and I peddle love to millions of people,” said Shah Rukh Khan, when he delivered his first TED Talk in Vancouver on April 28th, 2017. We have been waiting for Khan’s TED Talk on ‘Thoughts for Humanity, Fame and Love’ for quite sometime now. Well, it’s finally out on TED’s official YouTube page.
With a combination of his unpretentious wisdom and wit, Khan was able to grapple everything about his life within 18 minutes, in quite a candid speech. Apart from talking about his youth, hardships, family, and the media, he offered a few invaluable life lessons that we could all learn from.
1. Spread love
Khan said, “Neither power nor poverty can make your life more magical or less torturous… Whatever helps you survive is perhaps the oldest and simplest emotion known to mankind. And that is love.” Well, I guess love is a solution to all difficulties. Give and take love!
2. Be compassionate
“Mankind will never be wiser about its future unless it is coupled with a sense of love and compassion for their fellow beings.” Like the true ‘King Khan’ style, the superstar stressed on the importance of being humble and down-to-earth, in order to make sure that the world becomes a better place. Clearly for him, humility has paid off well. So why not give it a try, yeah?
3. Breaking barriers
Khan said, “You may use your power to build walls and to keep people outside or you may use it to break barriers and welcome them in.” By breaking your cocoon and allowing people to experience your side of life will definitely be life-changing for them. With all that’s happening around the world, these words by Khan have absolutely touched the lives of many.
4. Be the change
“You can use your energy to build nuclear bombs and spread the darkness of destruction, or you can use it to spread the joy of light to millions.” We always have perspectives, but the one we choose should always be for the better good. Wise words coming from a wise man.
